Trevor Lee Ewald (b.1983) is a sculptor and ceramicist whose work spans from intimate hand-sculpted teapots to monumental figurative works. His work is known for exploring complex emotional substrates through naturalistic execution, often addressing questions that many do not, or dare not, ask.
Ewald's artistic journey began at San Francisco State, where he studied ceramics and Japanese. After college, Ewald immersed himself in the tattoo industry for over a decade. His role encompassed building a museum through the restoration and archiving of thousands of pieces of tattoo flash and memorabilia, and curating fine art collections for artists in and adjacent to tattooing, including through his own gallery, The Grael. Throughout this period, he maintained his ceramics practice and deepened his artistic education, studying figurative sculpture and drawing under Alicia Ponzio and Justin Hess.
Ewald decided to shift his focus back to making his own work, developing his own collection of ceramic vessels and executing large-scale sculptural work, sculpted in clay and finished in bronze, resin or marble. He relocated to Florence, Italy to continue his education at the Florence Academy of Art, and is now working from Studio via dei Conti in Florence, Italy.
